COVID-19 Update

COVID 19 UPDATE:

We Are Offering COVID Testing

  • As your child’s medical home, we want to help direct your child’s care during the pandemic.
  • If you have concerns about your child having COVID or being exposed to someone with COVID, please call us.
  • If you believe your child needs a test, we can see your child here and perform the test.
  • We want to offer cost effective solutions to families who need tests to return to daycare, school, and work.
  • We send tests to an outside lab for processing and are currently receiving results in 24-48 hours.

Frequently Asked Questions

If my child has no symptoms, should they get tested for COVID?

If your child has had no exposure, no.

If your child has had a known exposure to COVID, then the CDC currently recommends testing. This recommendation is for contact tracing purposes and doesn’t change recommendations for quarantining your child. The AAP and CDC recommend testing no sooner than 4 days after exposure for accuracy of the test.

It can take up to 14 days after a person is exposed to COVID to develop disease, so a negative COVID test done prior to 14 days DOES NOT rule out disease and does not change recommendations to quarantine. Your child must quarantine for 14 days after exposure to someone else with COVID.

Is it safe to bring my child to the office?

Yes, it is safe to come to the office for sick and well visits. We are taking steps to keep our patients, staff, and physicians safe and healthy. Sunflower Pediatrics is still following enhanced safety measures.

We have increased our frequency of cleaning in all areas of the office to protect our patients, their families, our staff, and physicians. We clean and disinfect each exam room after every visit.

We use a separate entrance when needed for sick patients. Families are often taken to an exam room upon arrival. If there is a short wait time, families are social distanced in both the well and sick waiting areas.

We have separate time blocks for well visits and for sick visits. This further limits any exposure between well and sick children.

Walk-in visits have been suspended. “Nurse only visits” for strep tests and booster shots are now scheduled. This allows us to screen families for COVID exposure.

Here are ways you can help us.

  • If you or anyone in your house is under quarantine or has a pending COVID test, please let us know before you come to our office.
  • Walk-in visits have been suspended. Continue to call us before you come to the office.
  • We ask that one parent bring patients to visits when possible.
  • We ask that siblings not being seen for a visit or flu vaccine stay at home when possible.
  • Parents and children ages 2 years and older are to wear masks or protective face coverings in the office.
  • If you do not plan to come for your scheduled appointment, we kindly request that you cancel the appointment when you receive your 7-day or 3-day reminder. This allows us time to schedule another appointment.

Thank you!
